After making a comeback to the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) men’s National League play-offs, Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) coach Alisha Aliwa has challenged his team to challenge for the title.
KDF failed to make the play-offs cut last season after they finished fifth. At the end of the KVF regular season , the top four teams book tickets to the play-offs, where automatic two tickets lie in wait for the African Clubs Championship.
Last season, as new comers Trailblazers defied odds to qualify for the play-offs alongside defending champions General Service Unit(GSU) former champions Kenya Prisons and Kenya Ports Authority(KPA). Aliwa said it’s one thing to qualify for the play-offs but what you do at the event is what counts.
” We missed the event last year and of course it didn’t go down well. This year we had the chance and we made right. This time round we want our presence to be felt. We are not in just for the show but we want to muscle for the title. I have good players and I believe if get it right, then the title will not be far-fetched” said Aliwa who double up as national men’s team trainer.
KDF are third with 36 points from 15 matches, Prisons are second with 36 points but have a game in hand while GSU lead the standings with 38 points from 13 matches in 16 team -league. Equity Bank, KPA and Blazers are in race for the remaining slot.
The bankers are fourth with 31 points from 14 matches, while Blazers and KPA are joint fifth with 27 points although KPA have two matches at hand. The final leg is scheduled for June 24 while the play-offs are primed for next month.
