KCB has continued with its preparations for the upcoming Kenya Institute of Bankers (KIB) Interbank sports scheduled for September 23rd- 30th, 2023 at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies (KSMS).
The bank is building its teams that will compete in various sports disciplines at the 37th edition of the tourney. Great Region Trials are set to be conducted at the Nakuru Boys High School on August 12th while Western, Coast, and Central Regions will conduct their trials at Kasagam Secondary School, Mombasa Sports Club and Thika Stadium respectively.
KCB Group Director Marketing and Communication Rosalind Gichuru noted that the bank is looking forward to improving its rankings during this year’s competition and that is why it has embarked on a rigorous selection process to build competitive teams that will represent the bank well.
“We want to leave a mark in this year’s competitions and that is why we are starting early in our preparations. Our competitors should expect a much stronger team in KCB, one that will be out to cause upsets throughout the tournament period,” Rosalind said.
Last year, the bank dominated in the Lawn Tennis category as the duo of Robert Mburu and Peter Njuguna Mwangi clinched 1st place. KCB also caused major upsets against its opponents in Athletics as the team comprised of Morgan Rangita, Bethwel Kipchoge, William Kumo came in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd respectively in the 200 meters race. Bethwel Kipchoge took home the 800 meters crown.
The Tug of War title chase was a do-or-die affair as the day’s favorite team KCB came in second with the women’s team settling for third place. In swimming, KCB proved to be too strong for its rivals as the men’s team clinched 1st position while the women’s team took the second position.
Over 25 sporting events are lined up for competition by various teams from member Banks. The sports disciplines include football, tug-of-war, golf, chess, draughts, volleyball, basketball, snooker, squash, table tennis, athletics, badminton among others.
