Former Kenyan International Denis Mokua has been named the Kenya Prison’s men’s volleyball team coach ahead of the Kenya Volleyball Federation National League play-offs primed for October 2-4 at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani indoor arena, in Nairobi.
Mokua takes over from celebrated and acclaimed Coach David “Demosh” Lung’aho who was part of the men’s team that recently participated in the African Nations Volleyball Championship in Egypt where Kenya settled for a distant ninth.
Lung’aho a Chief Inspector at the Kenya Prison’s Staff Training College in Ruiru, led the National women’s team Malkia Strikers to a historic 2015 World Grand Prix win in Australia.
Mokua, who had professional stint at the Oita Miyoshi has worked under Paul Muthinja who has since exited as the assistant coach in 2016, before again working under Lung’aho.
The former outside hitter have former national team middle blocker Saul “Omunyange” Wafula for company as the assistant coach.
Mokua will be keen to ensure Prisons reclaim the elusive league title they last won in 2016 when he was still a player.
Prisons will come up against perennial rivals and reigning champions General Service Unit, Kenya Ports Authority and Kenya Defence Forces.
