Ferdinand Omanyala headlines Team Kenya to World Indoor Games

A team of 11 athletes has been selected by Athletics Kenya to represent Kenya at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow, Scotland slated for March 1st -3rd , 2024.

Two time Africa 100m champion Ferdinand Omnayala who recently won the 60m dash in 6.52 seconds ahead of Emmanuel Eseme (6.61) of Cameroon and Arthur Cissé (6.62) of Ivory Coast at the Elite Indoor Track Miramas Meeting in France says that he will be taking one race at a time.

“I am handling each race as it comes. I am heading to this season with a different mentality so no predictions. Just taking each day and race as it comes. Am hoping for the best at the world indoors I know it will be a tough task but am ready for it,” said Omanyala.

World Athletics shuttle relay bronze medalist Wiseman Were, will team up with Boniface Ontuga Mweresa, Zablon Ekhal Ekwam, and Kelvin Tauta Sane in the 4x400m.

Were finished third in final 1 of the Elite Indoor Track Miramas Meeting in France on 2nd of this month after clocking 48.05 in the 400m short track followed by compatriot Mweresa who finished fourth in 48.61 seconds.  Iñaki Cañal of Spain won in 46.72 while Boško Kijanović clocked 47.56 for second place.

Unfortunately no male athlete has expressed interest in competing in the 3000m, Japan based Teresiah Gateri will be representing the ladies in the same event. The team is currently training and will depart for Glasgow on 28th February 2024.
