Sports Journalist Association of Kenya (SJAK) in conjunction with Kenya Tourism Board (KTB), through the Magical Kenya brand, have acknowledged the importance of sports tourism in the ongoing WRC Safari Rally Kenya and are keen to use all international events in the country to promote Kenya as a tourism destination.
The initiative saw SJAK gift Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) officials, local and foreign journalists at the ongoing WRC Safari Rally 2024 with Magical Kenya branded jackets and caps.
Véra Dussausaye, the Communications Manager and WRC Media Delegate at FIA, Miguel Fonseca Safari’s Accreditation Manager, and Estonian Virko Visnapuu- who is providing Platform IT Support to the Naivasha Media Centre through Eventhos received Magical Kenya gifts from SJAK President James Waindi.
Dussausaye, who has been involved in a number of pre-safari activities like the Media Council of Kenya (MCK) WRC Safari Media workshop and the momentous launch of the Talanta Hela Rally School, said: “I feel honored with this Magical Kenya gift. It’s my third time in Kenya and I’m really enjoying myself. Kenya, like Africa, is so much different from Europe because of this kind of love and unity.”
“I’m glad I’m developing great rapport with the Kenyan media, actually I now know many with their first names. It’s really a pleasure being here for the WRC Safari Rally and it’s an experience that I can never fail to cherish.”
Visnapuu, on his part said: “I am working with the Eventhos application here in Kenya and I am helping the rally organisers with the accreditation of the WRC Safari Rally. It’s my first time in Kenya and it looks nice, different from Europe, wild animals are nice to see. I am happy to receive the Magical Kenya branded half jacket and cap, I like it.”
SJAK president, on his part noted, “It’s always a great pleasure interacting with FIA media representatives and media personalities. On behalf of sports scribes in Kenya, I take this opportunity to welcome all foreign media representatives in Kenya currently for this iconic African fixture.”
Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) has over the years worked to develop, implement and co-ordinate a national tourism marketing strategy by leveraging on key international sports events to market Kenyan destinations locally, regionally.
