Kenya Prisons men’s and women’s teams had a bright start as the Kenya Volleyball Federation National League finals playoffs served off, at the Moi International Sports Centre, indoor arena Kasarani, Nairobi on Friday.
Former champions Kenya Prisons, dismissed off color and defending champions KCB Women’s Volleyball Team, 3-0(26-24,25-16,25-17), while defending champions Kenya Prisons men’s team overpowered arch rivals and former champions General Service Unit (GSU) 3-0(25-23,25-22,25-17).
Prisons will play KCB in the return fixture on Saturday at 2pm at the same venue, while Kenya Prisons will play the paramilitary side in the return fixture on Saturday at 4pm.
The playoffs finals are being played in the best three series.
On their way to the finals, KCB beat Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) 3-0 last Saturday in the return fixture having held their nerves to beat their opponents 3-2 Friday while Kenya Prisons defeated African bronze medalists Kenya Pipeline 3-1 in the tie breaker on Sunday.
Prisons had won against Pipeline 3-0 on Friday before the Oilers returned the favour on Saturday wining with the same set ration.
In the men’s category, Kenya Prisons saw off Kenya Ports Authority 3-1in the tie breaker, while GSU won against Kenya Defence Forces 3-1.
Prisons had won 3-0 on Friday, while KPA won on Saturday 3-0.
DCI will on Saturday play the Oilers in the third-place playoffs at 10am,While Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) will take on KPA in the men’s category.
At the completion of the playoffs, Kenya Prisons men and women’s teams as well as KCB and GSU will book automatic tickets to the next year’s African Volleyball Clubs Championship by virtue of finishing in the top two positions.
