Judimma Academy Center won the grade 5-7 category of the first edition of Inter Primary Schools Kabadii National Championships as Green Edgewood Academy won the grade 7-8 category on Saturday afternoon in Mwihoko, Kiambu County.

Speaking after the event, Green Edgewood Academy’s head coach Emmanuel Kongani was excited to have hosted the Championships saying that the introduction of Kabadii to his school has now been embraced by most of the students and the new sport is also being used for life skills teachings.

” My students have been training this sport for about three months now, winning their first ever competition is indeed a morale booster to them. We are looking forward for more competitions and hope we continue with our winning streak,” said coach Kongani adding that he will engage the school’s admistration more into developing the sport at Greenwood Academy.

Judima Academic Centre beat Green Edge Wood Academy by 28-25 points to win the boys grade 4-5 category while the host made a revenge of Judimma in the girls category when they narrowly won by 14-13 points.

Green Edgewood triumphed again in the grade 7-8 category when they stamped authority on home soil by defeating a spirited Judimma Academic Centre by 39-33 points.

Likizo Academy were the other participants who found the going tough, losing all their matches against Judimma and hosts Green Edgewood.

Kenya Kabadii Sports Federation’s ( KKSF ) competitions manager Perpetual Muthoni Mbutu has now emphasized the importance of having inter schools competitions so as to make Kabadii understood and enjoyed by schools going children after the inception of the sport into the CBC education system.

” Kabadii is a mind and pysical game that helps children to grow strong and also being able to make the right decisions because in kabaddi a wrong decision makes a team loose points while your opponents gain points whenever they make the right decisions, an aspect of the sport that can be translated to real life situations,” said Muthoni.

All eyes now shifts to the national team selection on 22nd of this month as Kenya prepares for the Kabadii World Cup to be staged in Cambodia, August 2024.
