SPORTPESA 7S NATIONAL CIRCUIT TO KICK OFF WITH CHRISTIE

The Sportpesa sevens National Circuit will kick off with the Christie sevens in Nairobi this weekend on 27-28 th July 2024 at the RFUEA grounds it has now been confirmed as the title sponsor pumped in 16.5 million Ksh for this season.

Speaking during the launch of the circuit that was done together with the Christie, an opening leg that is hosted by Kenya Harlequin Rugby FC, Club Chairman Victor Sudi was in an upbeat mood promising to give his best as the host.

“We are honored to host the opening leg of this prestigious circuit. The Christie 7s has a rich history of thrilling matches and vibrant fan engagement. We are excited to welcome teams and fans to Nairobi for an unforgettable rugby experience,” said Sudi.

Christie 7s Tournament Director Nekesa Were emphasized the need for proffesionalism during the circuit praising the corporation of the Kenya Rugby Union ( KRU) and title sponsor Sportpesa adding that Kenya Harlequins are privileged to play hosts of the opening leg, an opportunity to showcase to Kenyans what they have to offer.

Hosts Harlequins have been pooled in group C together with college boys Strathmore Leos, Kenyatta University ( KU) Black blad and Daystar Falcons as group A will have heavyweights led by defending champions KCB, Nondescript, Homeboys Rugby and Impala.

Kabras sugar who narrowly missed last season’s title will have a go in group B with Nakuru RFC, Kisumu RFC and Catholic Monks while Menengai Oilers are in group D together with Mwamba RFC, Masinde Muliro and University of Eldoret.

The men’s division two has five pools with four teams each, 20 teams that will toil and sweat for promotion, a fete that will only be achieved through the finess of Kenya rugby sevens.

In the women’s category, favorites Northern Surbabs are in pool A together with hosts Harlequins, National Youth Service ( NYS) and Impala.

Pool B has Mwamba, Western Spears, Shamberere Institute and Meru ladies.

The circuit will next head to Kakamega County for the Ingoo 7s, Kisumu County for the Dala 7s, come back to Nairobi City for the legendary Kabeberi 7s then head to Nakuru for the Prinsloo 7s and finally the Driftwood 7s in Mombasa County.

As the national rugby sevens circuit begins in Nairobi this Saturday and Sunday, all eyes will be on defending champions Kenya Commercial Bank ( KCB ) who have some of their key players already in France preparing for the Paris 2024 summer Olympic games with the Kenya national team ‘ Shujaa’ , an opportunity for hosts Harlequins to grab and shine.
