Young stars Mariam Nekesa Wamani and Dorine Akinyi will debut in the senior netball national team ahead of the Mirxes National Cup scheduled for 1-7 September at the OCBC Arena in Singapore.

Speaking on Monday morning at the team’s training base at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi, Kenya Netball Federation (KNF) Secretary General Millicent Busolo praised the national team’s technical bench led by Mugisha Ali, for giving the U21 duo an opportunity to play in the senior team.

” This gives hopes to other school going netball players. The two girls really gave it all on the floor and I am really impressed.” said Busolo adding that the country needs to win and accumulate enough points to improve on the world rankings to qualify for the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Long serving national team captain Parin Simiyu from Prisons Kenya has once again been selected at goal defense. She will partner with Teresa Othuon and Lucy Akumu while the duo of Jackline Auro and Abigael Seme from Ulinzi Swords will also help out on similar duties.

The center of the pitch will be marshalled by Ulinzi’s Elsa Ndong’ and Vidah Otieno in conjunction with Prisons’ Irene Anyango and Nancy Atieno.

Kenyatta National Hospital’s Hellen Sinoya will be in attack assisted by Prison’s Lydia Nyapere and Equity Bank’s youngster Dorine Akinyi as the national U21 team captain Miriam Wamani who also turns out for Equity as a center, will be a reserve player making the trip and will only come in, in case of an injury or any other situation that might force a player out.

KNF has already scheduled the 13 players and five officials to jet out on Friday 30th and travel in two batches to Singapore via Doha in Qatar.
