We would like to win the league unbeaten! Kanbis B skipper Hirani says

by Samson Ateka

Kanbis Sports Club cricket teams have always been known for their resilience and teamwork. Kanbis A are currently placed second in the top tier Super League behind Swamibapa A while, Kanbis B are unbeaten in Division One leading the log ahead of Obuya Academy A and Ngara A.

Kanbis Development are currently in the semis of Division Three this weekend against Ruaraka C.

Asked about their flawless run in Nairobi Provincial Cricket Association NPCA) 50-overs Division One League, Kanbis B skipper Rikesh Patel attributed team cohesion adding that they’re determined to end it on a high.

Rikesh: “We would want to win the league unbeaten so would try to play the remaining matches with the same dedication and mindset of winning. Players do get exhausted mentally when we come towards the end of the tournament. As a Captain it’s my duty to make sure they stay mentally fresh and eager to play as if it’s the first game of the league.”

Kanbis B defeated hosts Ngara A by 70 Runs in a Division One match at Ngara Sports Club to maintain their unbeaten run. Kanbis B were bowled out for185 in 49.5 Overs.  In reply, Ngara Sports Club A found the going tough and were also bowled out for 115 in 30.3 Overs.

After weeks of brilliant displays, Kanbis B lead the NPCA 50-Overs log by a flawless 36- points winning 9 out of the 9 matches they have played thus far.

Following the weekend’s fixtures, the top four positions remain unchanged with Obuya A, Ngara A and Ruaraka B clinging to second, third and fourth places respectively. Rikesh sounded quite febrile as the season nears the decisive stage.

Rikesh explained: The mix of youngsters with the experienced players has made the team a formidable one. Kanbis B team is over the years known for grooming players and making them ready for the super division.”

–Obuya A’s winning streak–

The Collins Obuya led Obuya Academy A maintained their winning streak with a 93-run advantage over Sikh Union B.

Obuya have fought tooth and nail this season in their spirited bid to earn promotion to the top tier super league following their relegation to the second tier Division One. But Obuya will be compelled to fight even harder as they have to stop high-riding Kanbis B and Ngara A who are also fighting to regain Super Division status.

Obuya have only lost once in 9 matches and were unlucky to register a No Result (NR) when their July 7 fixture against Goan Institute was abandoned due to bad weather.

They trail Kanbis B by 6 points after 9 matches while Ngara are onn26 and Ruaraka on 22. But Ngara and Ruaraka’ s fortunes in the tussle for the title are slowly fading as they have both played 10 matches unlike Obuya A and Kanbis B who have played 9 matches each.

In other Division One match, Swamibapa B continued with their revival after disastrous start to the season with a win over Sir Ali B side. Milan Varsani’ s 5 wicket haul helped Swamibapa team defend 159 runs.

In Division Two, Ngara B continue to ride on the crest of a wave albeit a 2-point advantage over Stray Lions C. Ngara top the Division Two log with 24 points against Stray Lions C’s 22.
