Olympian and experienced beach volleyball player Gaudencia Makokha will partner with fast-rising Abigail Chesebe during the Confederation of Africa Volleyball (CAVB)/International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) World Beach Pro Tour Futures in Bujumbura, Burundi.
Makokha is among the two men and women’s Kenya beach pairs that landed safely in Bunjumbura Wednesday night ahead of the event that serves off on Thursday.
Directorate of Criminal Investigations opposite hitter Mercy Iminza and Shirleen Maywa of KCB Women’s Volleyball Team form the other women’s pair.
Makokha partnered with Naomi Too during the June FIVB Beach Volleyball Continental Cup cum Olympic qualifiers in Tetouan, Morocco.
Kenya Volleyball Federation National League champions pair of Elphas Makuto and Jairus Jepkosgei as well as Equity Bank captain Wilson Waibei and General Service Unit setter Brian Melly are the men’s pair for the four-day event that starts Thursday through to Sunday.
Melly and Edward Kibet of Kenya Defence Forces represented the country during the Olympic qualifiers where the duo failed to go past the group stage.
KVF Athletes representative and Kenya Prisons left attacker Brackcides Agala is the head of delegation, while Aisha Otieno is the women’s team manager while Sammy Mulinge is the men’s team manager.
Patrick Owino is the coach for both the men and women’s teams, while John Mayaka is the Physiotherapist.
In the meantime, Deep Heat, on Wednesday sponsored the forthcoming Kenya beach volleyball Tour (homologated) with dummy cheque of Sh,300,000.
On hand to receive the cheque were KVF president Charles Nyaberi, Beach Volleyball Commission chair Moses Mbuthia and KVF deputy Secretary General John Ogara.
The event is scheduled for September 21-22 at the Big Tree Beach Hotel in Mombasa County.
Meanwhile national team players Enock Mogeni and Simon Kipkorir “Kosirai” have landed professional stints.
Mogeni, who is locally attached Kenya Ports Authority joined Al Wasl of the United Arabs Emirates, while Kosirai who plays for former champions General Service Unit joined Saudi Arabian side Abha Club.
Kosirai was with Mouloudia Sportive de Bou Salem of Tunisia last season before he moved to Saudi while Mogeni switched allegiance from Al Arabi from Qatar.
Elsewhere, former GSU player Luke Makuto, sibling to Elphas, Asha, Evelyn’ and Violet moved up the rank in Kenya Police Service as a Sergeant.
