Kenya men’s handball team will open their title campaign against Morocco tonight as the African Nations Cadets Championship gets underway in Tunisia.
Kenya will take on Morocco at 8pm (EAT).
The East Africans have been drawn in pool “B”together with Libya, and hosts Tunisia.
Kenya will then face off with Tunisia before wrapping up the group with a match against Libya.
The team which is under the guidance of Gerald Juma, coach at Mbooni Boys Secondary School will be seeking to qualify for the semifinal with all teams in the two pools proceeding to the quarterfinal after group stages.
The top four teams at the completion of the championship will qualify for the next year’s World Championship at a yet to be decided venue.
A source who is away in Tunisia said,” We have good players here who are fresh from competing at the East Africa School Games in Uganda and I believe they stand a chance to qualify for the Worlds based on their selection which was on merit.Ofcourse we did not have enough time to acclimatize here but we are excited and happy for players who have the chance to showcase their talents but moreso, pick exposure and experience,”
The team arrived in the host nation on Wednesday evening ahead of the event that begins today.
Players were picked from Mbooni,
Kimilili High School, HighWay High School, Mt Kenya School, Kamito High School and Malik Secondary School.
Group “A” has Egypt, Burundi, Guinea and Algeria.
Other matches on the card today will see Tunisia battle Libya in other pool “B” match while Egypt will battle Guinea as Burundi play Algeria in pool “A” fixtures.
