The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has officially unveiled its Electoral Board, marking the beginning of preparations for the upcoming elections that will shape the future of Kenyan football.
The five-member board, consisting of Hesbon Owila (Chairperson), Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) President James Waindi, Dan Mule, Marceline Sande, and Alfred Ng’ang’a, was introduced on Monday, September 23. Sande, an advocate of the High Court of Kenya, will serve as the board’s secretary, reinforcing its credibility.
The Electoral Board will be stationed at Kandanda House, FKF’s headquarters, and is expected to begin operations within three days. Its primary mandate is to provide a detailed roadmap for the election process, including timelines, before overseeing the elections on December 15, 2024.
Speaking during the unveiling, Owila emphasized on the weight of the board’s responsibility, acknowledged the emotional nature of elections; particularly in sports, and emphasized on the importance of fairness and transparency.
“Elections are always emotive, especially in sports. Before joining the board, we took the time to fully understand what we were committing to,” Owila stated.
He highlighted three key factors the board had considered: the significance of the elections to the Kenyan public, the contestants, and the board’s commitment to fair play. Owila stressed that these elections would set the foundation for the future of Kenyan football, a sport that offers livelihoods to many.
“We understand that football is more than just a game—it’s a profession for many. These elections will be crucial in shaping the future of our beloved sport,” he remarked.
Owila assured football fans and stakeholders that the board was committed to delivering a fair, transparent, and credible electoral process. He also urged candidates to demonstrate integrity, vision, and commitment to improving football in Kenya.
