After crisscrossing different golf courses across the country for the past 7 months, the NCBA Golf Series is set for the final qualifying event this Saturday (26th) at the Great Rift Valley Lodge and Golf Resort.
Six more golfers are expected to book their slots at the par 71 18-hole course for the highly coveted 2024 NCBA Golf Series Grand Finale set for next month at the Muthaiga Golf Club where over 100 players have already qualified including nine from across the region.
Just like in the other legs, the last qualifying leg of the series will see the top male and female finishers in Divisions One and Two, and the overall winner in Division Three, together with the overall Junior winner reserve their spots for the finale at Muthaiga on the 29th of November 2024.
More than 150 golfers are expected to participate in the tournament, maintaining a good turnout as was last year where Sarat Singh floored a large field of 165 players to clinch the overall gross title.
This year’s edition, launched at the Royal Nairobi Golf Club in February, has traversed beyond Kenya, featuring tournaments in Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda, underscoring NCBA’s commitment to promoting golf across East Africa.
NCBA Group Managing Director John Gachora stated: “The 2024 NCBA Golf Series has been a resounding success since its launch in February of this year and we are happy to be wrapping up the qualifiers at the Great Rift Valley Lodge. Throughout this journey, we have traversed various golf courses across the region, met and interacted with so many of our stakeholders in the golfing community and we hope to do the same at Naivasha.”
This tournament follows the Nyali Golf & Country Club one held earlier this month which saw Emmanuel Lumatete win the overall prize as Mary Kandu defended her title in the women’s Division One category.
Anselm Olweny, Brian Omeda, and Emmanuel Wamala are the men’s representatives from the qualifying tournaments held in Uganda while Berna Musanabera, Lillian Koowe, and Eva Lwanga will be representing the ladies.
Paul Ntaganda, Murekatete Alphonsine, and Bethlehem Umuzabibu qualified from Rwanda based on their average scores from the two legs held in the country. There is one more qualifying tournament in Tanzania next month to determine the final team that will book a slot for the season finale.
