Red Perils Netball Club won the Super 2 category while Mpesa Foundation Academy did the same for the Schools during the just concluded Nairobi Sports House Trophy tournament that was played at Uhuru Sports Complex in Nairobi on Sunday.
Speaking from Thika town, Kiambu County on Monday, Mpesa Foundation Academy head coach Julius Karanja said that the win was a moral booster to his charges, a step closer to achieving their overal dream of conquering the school’s competitions.
” It’s an amazing feeling to have won the category. The girls have really pushed themselves and we see improvements daily during our practice sessions. The next step now is to conquer other schools and reign supremo,” said Karanja who is also a national team player.
The two day event that was concluded on Sunday saw Robert Karanu’s Mahutia Secondary School taking second place honors while St Johns Lucky Summer was third, an achievement to the bronze medalists, but an eye opener to the silver holders as Karanu now promises Karanja a showdown next time out.
The Super 2 category had Red Perils Netball Club emerge victorious, beating a tough Mathare 4 A by a point as Kenya Medical Training College ( KMTC ) Nairobi came in third, Friends Church Quakers were fourth and ASHUT Plastics finished fifth.
The event also saw both the women’s and the men’s national teams that are preparing for the Africa Netball Cup in Namibia get invites for a practice session against local sides, an idea that head coach Mugisha Ali says it gives him an opportunity to see other players that might have been overlooked during the initial selection process.
Nairobi County Netball Association Secretary General Lilian Anupi praised the teams that honored the two day event saying that she will rally for more sponsorships that will see netball clubs play in many competitions so that national teams will have ready players.
KMTC Nairobi, Mathare 4 A ladies, Mathare 4 A men, Ashut Plastics, Mpesa foundation, Bunge Netball Ladies, Red Perils, Young Achievers Dandora, Mahutia Secondary, St Johns Primary School Lucky Summer, Both men and women’s national teams, Nairobi Combined men and Friends Church Quakers Nairobi Region were the teams that participated in the event.
