CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe has expressed optimism about Kenya’s preparations to co-host the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2025, scheduled for February.

Dr. Motsepe, accompanied by newly appointed Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohamed, Deputy FKF President McDonald Mariga, and Acting FKF CEO Patrick Korir, toured key venues, including Kasarani Sports Stadium, Nyayo Stadium, Ulinzi Sports Complex, and Police Sacco Stadium. These facilities are undergoing renovations to host the month-long tournament.

“I am impressed with the works going on; things are very different and moving on very well compared to my last visit,” Dr. Motsepe remarked at Nyayo National Stadium. “The support shown by the government, led by President William Ruto and the minister Kipchumba Murkomen, is commendable. I am confident that Kenya, alongside Uganda and Tanzania, will host the best CHAN in the history of the tournament.”

The tour culminated in a meeting at State House with President William Ruto, where discussions focused on timelines, infrastructure upgrades, and Kenya’s readiness to host the event. President Ruto reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering a successful tournament despite tight timelines.

“Kenya is pulling all the stops to be ready to host the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in February 2025. Renovations at Moi Sports Centre Kasarani and Nyayo Stadium are progressing as planned. The Ulinzi Sports Complex, Police Sacco Stadium in Nairobi, and Kirigiti Stadium in Kiambu, which will serve as training venues, are also under renovation and will be ready ahead of the championships,” President Ruto said.

FKF President Hussein Mohamed expressed gratitude to both the government and CAF for their unwavering support. “We thank the government, led by President William Ruto, for the commitment and sincerely thank CAF, led by President Dr. Patrice Motsepe, for the trust they’ve placed in Kenya. We promise to deliver a successful tournament,” he said.

Outgoing Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen echoed similar sentiments, noting CAF’s role in keeping the preparations on track. “CAF has really pushed us to ensure we deliver within the timelines, and so far, we are on the right track. As a government, we are committed to hosting a successful tournament,” he remarked.

Motsepe’s delegation, which included CAF Fourth Vice-President Seidou Mbombo Njoya and Secretary-General Veron Mosengo-Omba, concluded their Kenyan tour with a courtesy call to President Ruto. They later departed from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, heading to Uganda to continue the East African CHAN preparations tour.

The CHAN 2025 Championships will take place from February 2 to February 28, 2025, with Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania serving as co-hosts.
