Audrey Gachora Leads in Girls’ 15-18 Category

Junior golf prodigy Shashwat Harish delivered an extraordinary performance at the NCBA Kenya Invitational Tournament, claiming the top spot in the Boys’ 13-14 category with an impressive score of 10-under par 206.

The three-day event, held at the Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club, showcased Harish’s exceptional skills as he carded rounds of 70, 70, and an incredible 66 on the final day.

Shashwat’s dominance was evident, finishing 23 strokes ahead of his closest rival, Aidan Gachora, who posted 13-over par 229. Tied for third were Uganda’s Shashank Gadre and Kenya’s Mwathi Gicheru, both with scores of 14-over par 230.

“The course was in pristine condition, which made it easier for me and the other golfers. This is my best-ever score, and I’m thrilled to have achieved such results. It wasn’t easy physically, but I prepared mentally for this tournament. I look forward to more opportunities to improve my game,” said Shashwat.

Audrey Gachora Leads in Girls’ 15-18 Category

Kenya’s Audrey Gachora emerged victorious in the Girls’ 15-18 category, displaying consistent brilliance across all three rounds. Audrey finished with a total score of 15-over par 231, outpacing compatriots Maryam Mwakitawa (18-over par 234) and Bianca Ngecu (22-over par 238).

“The competition was very tough this year, but I enjoyed playing and am delighted to have emerged top in my category. Earning World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) points is a significant milestone. My goal is to continue improving my game, lower my handicap, and eventually turn professional,” Audrey said.

 

Tsevi Soni Claims Boys’ 15-18 Title

In the Boys’ 15-18 category, Kenya’s Tsevi Soni secured victory with a total score of 8-over par 224. Soni’s consistent performance, including two rounds of 73, helped him edge out Uganda’s Anthony Otokei, who finished just one stroke behind at 225 (+9). Kenya’s Nathan Mwangi and Tanzania’s Dhruv Sanjay Patadia tied for third at 17-over par 233.

Other Standout Performances

The tournament also celebrated remarkable achievements across younger age groups:

  • Girls’ 13-14: Kenya’s Brianna Ngecu claimed the top spot with 239 strokes (+23), ahead of Yolanda Yu (+27) and Uganda’s Harsshitha Loganathan (+35).
  • Girls’ 11-12: Siqian Yu showcased her determination, finishing first with 245 strokes (+29), narrowly beating Chloe Chiuri and Aria Dodhia, who tied for second at 246 strokes (+30).
  • Boys’ 11: Adam Nesbitt impressed with a score of 228 strokes (+12), ahead of South Africa’s Jordan Van Rooyen (+34) and Kenya’s Armaan Chavda (+68).
  • Boys’ 8 (9 holes): James Macakiage scored 5-under par 103, surpassing Uganda’s Dante Kawalya (+3).
  • Boys’ 7 (9 holes): Surya Bongu stood out with a remarkable 4-under par 104.

The event attracted 116 junior golfers from 10 countries across Asia, Africa, and Europe. The tournament offered participants a chance to earn Order of Merit points, WAGR points, and US Kids Golf Priority Status, providing pathways to prestigious international tournaments and championships.

Speaking at the prize-giving ceremony, Kenya Golf Union Chairman David Ndungu lauded the event’s success:

“We thank all partners for supporting our junior golfers. This tournament reflects the progress in junior golf in Kenya. From the scores we’ve seen, we are confident our players will soon feature in events like the Magical Kenya Open.”

Junior Golf Foundation Kenya President Regina Gachora emphasized the tournament’s role in nurturing young talent:

“The competition has been excellent, and the improvement in scores is encouraging. These events are vital for raising the standards of golf in Kenya. We are grateful to NCBA and all our partners for their support.”
