Prisons Kenya kick started the women’s netball national league on a high last weekend in Nairobi at the Ulinzi Sports Complex winning all their scheduled three matches.
Speaking on Sunday evening after her final game against newbies Kenyatta National Hospital ( KNH), Prisons head coach Everline Cherono was optimistic of bagging her 14th national league title.
” It has been a tough outing for us, but we thank God that we have won all our games. Tactically, at times we seemed lost but I have a lot of experienced players who came through for us,” said Cherono adding that her charges are thirsty for a 14th national league title that will also serve as a perfect send off to a few of her players who are contemplating retirement.
Prisons had a go against perennial rivals Ulinzi Swords on Saturday, a tough date for Cherono’s players who had to fight and win the final fourth quarter, carrying the day with 45 points against Ulinzi’s 34.
National U-21 captain Miriam Wamani was instrumental in guiding her new side Equity bank to closely edge KNH 46-44, a game that witnessed both teams showcase an array of untested young talents at the national stage, only to lose their second game 46-22 against ten times champions Ulinzi who fielded experienced players.
Ulinzi’s impressive run continued on Sunday when they easily beat KNH 47-36 as the experienced Prisons made mince meat of Equity by mauling the youngsters 49-36 and doing the same against KNH when they outscored them by 50-33 points.
