Kenya men’s handball team will be keen to recover from Thursday loss at the hands of Morocco 27-25 when they take on Tunisia today at 8pm in the ongoing African Nations Cadets championship in Tunisia.
Kenya who trailed 9-12 at the breather, would later recollect themselves to lead for the better part of the second half but failed to hold onto the lead when it mattered the most with seven minutes left to the end of the match.
Brandon Barasa(7),Ismael Sakana(6) and Geoffrey Kimtai(6) top-scored for the Kenyans, while, Noam Sinitambirivoutin(6),Nouali Adam(5) and El Idriss (4) emerged top scorers for the winners.
The side coached by Gerald Juma will on Saturday complete their pool “B” match against Libya before they proceed to the quarterfinal.
In the other results, Tunisia defeated Libya 30-27 in pool “B” while Algeria overwhelmed Burundi 45-30 as Egypt saw off Guinea 46-22 in pool “A” results.
The top four teams at the end of the competition will qualify for the nex year’s World Championship.
In the meantime, Kenya women’s handball team were drawn in pool “A” alongside Cape Verde, Algeria, Senegal,Egypt and Congo in the forthcoming 26th edition of African Cup of Nations championship to help in Democratic Republic of Congo on November 27 to December 7.
In the draws that were conducted on Thursday night in DR Congo, Africa champions Angola headline pool “B” that also has Cameroon, Guinea, Tunisia, neighbors Uganda and hosts DRC.
The top six Nations will qualify for the World Championship at a yet to be decided venue.
Kenya who last participated in the biennial event that was held in Cameroon in 2021 after it was rescheduled due to Coronavirus, the East Africans placed 10th in the event that was won by Angola.
Kenya would later fail to compete at the next edition that was held in Senegal in 2022 and now make a return to the championship as they seek to make their presence felt.
