Kenya’s Women’s handball team has intensified their training ahead of the 26th Women’s Handball African Cup of Nations scheduled from November 27th to December 7th in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo.
The national side has entered their third week of preparations at the Nyayo National stadium, handball court under the tutelage of Jack Sandan.
Sandan says the preparations are going on well according to plan and they are hoping for a quarter final spot as they are making their second appearance in the continental showpiece. Kenya made their debut in the international scene in 2021 where they finished in the sixth position in Cameroon
The tactician has injected new blood in the team and is hoping that this will bring the energy and pace that is needed in the squad. The newcomers include; Dorothy Machuma, Sara Wasike, Mercy Kirwa and Euphresia Mukhasa from Ulinzi Sharks, Bella Dona and Lydia Juma from Daystar University and Florence Oduor from National Cereals and Produce Board.
The regulars in the national side include Mitchelle Adhiambo, Melvin Akinyi, Brenda Ariviza, Tracy Ongiri, Winnie Miyenda and Regina Waithera.
“This week, we are working on our defense and position of play. We are currently working with 26 players. It’s not easy but we will trim the team later to 16 players. We expect improvements from our last outing. We have newcomers in the team and the regulars and I hope this will make the team blend well.
Kenya has been pooled in Group A alongside favorites Senegal, Egypt, Cape Verde and Algeria and Congo.
Group B has Angola, Tunisia, Guinea, Cameroon, Uganda and DRC Congo.
