NCPB Faces Rwanda Police in Championship Final

Kenya Handball Federation (KHF) league champions, the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) men’s handball team, will face Rwanda Police in the finals of the 42nd edition of the East and Central Club Championship on Saturday evening in Kigali, Rwanda.

NCPB stormed into the finals with a commanding 49-25 victory in the semi-finals, while Rwanda Police labored to a narrow 25-23 win over their compatriots, APR, in another semi-final encounter.

Commenting after the match, the Millers’ captain, Timothy Karimi, emphasized that their mission is not yet complete as they aim for a third consecutive title in an exciting final.

“The competition has been good—very organized. Rwanda is a perfect host. The level of handball in the region is clearly on the rise if you judge by the number of new teams and the competitiveness of the matches played,” he said.

“We are happy to reach the final, but the job is not yet done until we claim our third consecutive championship title. We remain focused on the prize and the target,” he added.

In the third-place play-off, APR will face SOS (Burundi), while Cobra (South Sudan) will play Gicumbi (Rwanda) for the 5th and 6th positions. Juba City will take on UB Sports (Rwanda) in the 7th and 8th position match.

The Millers clinched their maiden regional title in 2022 in Zanzibar and successfully defended the title at home last year.

In the women’s category, reigning regional champions Nairobi Water will face ESC Nyamagabe in their final fixture of the competition. Meanwhile, Uganda Police will be crowned champions after an emphatic 61-27 victory over the University of Kigali.

The Ugandan side has won all three of their matches in the championship. This category attracted only four teams, and matches were played in a round-robin format, with the team accumulating the most points claiming the title.
