The just concluded Nairobi County level one swimming Championships at Kiota School in Nairobi, saw the emergence of six year old Adia Mwende who defied all odds to win the prestigious best swimmer girls trophy.
Speaking on Monday from her home in Meru town after the weekend meet, the Genesis Sports limited swimmer expressed her gratitude to her parents, coaches, and teammates for their unwavering support saying that the January 18-19th 2025 event in Nairobi was an eye opener that now makes her ambitious.
“I train hard because I dream of representing Kenya at the Olympics one day. I did not expect to win because girls from Nairobi are always better and stronger, but I won and want to continue winning,” said Adia who competed in the 7-and-under category last weekend at Kiota School.
Adia’s coach Alex Kaindi added that the youngster’s next challenge is the Meru Swimming Gala at Nkubu in Meru in January 25th this year, then start preparing for the annual PIPSSA Inter-County Sports Tournament in March 8-9, 2025, at St. Christopher’s School, Nanyuki and later the International Mini Games in Kigali, Rwanda, slated for April 5, 2025.

sports, her victory in Nairobi last weekend is a powerful reminder that her achievements not only inspire her peers in Meru but also signal the untapped potential in Kenya’s rural areas.
